Today was a workday for me. Working at the Vein is ok but has lost it's luster now that I've made my decision to leave. It's been almost a year since the beginning of my [[divorce]]. My house, which has been on the market for far too long, has finally gotten an offer.
It was priced at 180K they offered 170k we got some fishy feelings about our Realtor and the buyers Realtor and countered with 179k, which they accepted. Very odd.
Anyway That is almost sold. The engagement ring sold. I am moving and I am in love.
I'd say this is what causes most of my anguish right now. Being away from from [[Jess]].

Cripes, today is always a busy day! Not at work, but in general. I worked today at [[The Vein]] as usual. It's a full eight hour shift. Some people think, "Mike, your job ain't hard."
They are wrong!
Customer service is always hard.
I digress.

Let me tell you, riding for a couple of hours over 9 miles of technical trail work can take alot out of you.
Jon and I talked about our usual random shit. Well, mine is not so random. Jon could put money on the fact that I'll bring up [[Jess]] whenever possible.
I can always count on Jon fantasizing about a group of hot, naked, women out in the middle of nowhere wanting us to be Breast judges or something like that.
at least once during our ride, we wish we were lucky enough to get paid $14 and hour to make trail for the county just like [[Bike Monk]].
Hello from abroad. This journal is brought to you via [[Jacie]]'s (pronounced Jack-ee) computer. Please give it up for [[Jacie]] everyone. Her little laptop downloaded a File Transfer Protocol program against it's will.
Well, I am abroad. Exotic Phoenix is my current locale but tomorrow will take us deep into the Arizona jungle to find the lost city of Sedona.
I will have my forever trusty partner in crime, [[Jessica]], with me. I will never move one step without this great woman.
Well, I've been a bad blogger and not updating my wiki. I'm sure all one of my loyal readers was worried. (No need to worry mom, I called you at least 5 times or more since the last journal anyway.) A few things have happened.
I'm now just a few weeks away from moving. I'm kinda nervous.This is all new territory for me. I've rooted myself in Tucson for quite a while and now I'm embarking on a new future. [[Jessica]] had her 28th birthday. We celebrated with her friends Tuesday night. I believe a good time was had by all, and she has an awesome group of friends.
I purchased a new computer for my up coming move and schooling. It's a MacBook. I'm not used to Macs but I'm seeing the appeal more and more. I was initially tempted to get a Linux based laptop but needed a little more support. Currently, I do not regret my decision to spend an ass load of money. My buddy [[Hermes]] died last night. It made me sad to let him go. I knew this day would come, but knowing still did not make th decision any easier. He was my closest confidant, best friend and all around cool cat for over ten years. I'll miss him badly.

On Friday, I woke with Jess going to work at Super8 motel. Still being worthless so soon after waking, I was not able to make her coffee to go like I wanted. I said my "Have a nice day"s to her.
My run that morning was better than previous mornings I went a little further and will take my GPS with me on future runs.
Sadness was still with me from the previous night and I fought to keep it. I hated to not feel bad about the passing of Hermes. Feeling that I should feel worse than I did made me feel bad.
Ok funny story.
I've been questing for an Abba-zabba in Tucson for a while. I've been to Circle K, CVS, Walgreens, 7-11, Quick Mart and various other convenience markets. I had no luck finding my beloved Abba-zabba.
Jessica knew of my quest and decided to buy me a case from candyfavorites.com. I received it on Saturday and was joyed. Needless to say I broke into one instantly, though it was ten in the morning. "Abba-zabba, you my only friend."
While happily chomping away, I realized I could make myself sick on them. I thus, gave a few away. At one point Jen, Wyatt, Micah and I were going at our individual Abba-zabbas in an orgy like circle-chomp.
Midway through Micah exclaims "I got a piece of metal in my Abba-zabba."
Indeed, there was a piece of metal on the surface about the size of half a dime. Upon bending it open we discovered that it was just the tip of the iceberg. the part we could see was only the flat part of a nut that was still attached to the lug that seems to have sheared off of the machine.

I am not detered by this little incident. I think it's funny. I love Abba-zabbas. The Annabelle company needs to watch it's machines better though.

The whole class made me an awesome book full of pictures made by the students for me. The art was awesome. I saw the child in each drawing. I just about cried. I love those kids. I am so looking forward to teaching. Next week, Ms. Marron invited me to join them on a field trip. I will join them. I'm sure I will be visiting them through out the year. Man! How will I be a teacher if attachments come so easily?
Well, a week ago Jess and I decided to join forces in a wireless plan. My contract ended. We have gone with Verizon. The suckers sold us Palm Centros for $49 and also buy one get one free. Suckers!!!!! We have lots of fun with them. Here is my proof.

I'm sure you can understand my love of the funk, and rap while I do house work, but how does my education fit in. I cannot study while music is playing. Actually I cannot study while lyrics are being sung or said. I have to listen. Spoken word is my attraction. I'm a verbal person. Jamie Whelan would say I'm a verbal and kinesthetic learner. Jamie has told me time and time again to switch it up. Not all my students are learners like me. This I know but have to teach myself to teach for a different perspective.
I digress.
I recently went to the TARIAT (There's A Reason I'm A Teacher) conference. In it there was a teacher speaking on using music and movement to create learning. This got my brain a churning. I would love to use some of the beats and music I've heard to create an environment for my students. A environment of not only learning but of structure and fun. I have some beats I would love use and would like to get a hold of those tracks sans lyrics.

This does sadden me. The lyrics are not child appropriate but, the content, the thesis of many of my favorites are of social justice, historical injustice as well as just plain hanging with your friends fun.
But the beats, oh the beats and music can be used to teach, rap and rhyme subjects, and create cues to play throughout the day. These can get rumps a shakin'. As Jaime told me, learning is not a quiet endeavor. I also don't think it is a stationary endeavor. I hope I can get a hold of some of my music without the lyrics. It would be a great experiment.

This is the fall. Cold. Windy. Stressful.
We are into fall, full swing. I am going to take a picture of a tree in front the College of Education here at NAU.
It's leaves were almost mustard yellow. I found myself mesmerized by it's shaking and falling leaves. I stood there staring, watching, and could not help but equate the tree with myself. Well, the tree was not the me of now. It was the me in the future. Right now is summer, hot and muggy but full of fun and passion, ice cream and swimming in the public pool, Making friends and losing friends in the blink of an eye.
I'm a little tired right now. My time working with children is exciting and frightening. Exciting, because the students are fun and have great minds. Frightening in that I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing. I've taken classes and been in the classrooms but as soon as I start working with the students I am lost. "What the hell are you doing here?" my conscious screams. It feels as if what I want to do and what I like are not what I'm meant to do.
It's funny that even at thirty-seven years old I am chock full of doubt. Even after four years of military service, 18 years of living on my own, and surviving as long as I have, I doubt. Thank you Rene Descartes for confirming my existence.

I apologize for not updating sooner but more will follow this post. I lost my USB with the site info on it so I'm in the process of recovery.

Kinda girly but they do look good and I wanted to do some cables. Well, now that I have done about 7 inches I must say cabling is fun and challenging. This wool yarn initially felt just a tad rough but has since started feeling softer.

The thumb is a tad loose but I won't take that as a defeat. I improvised that and the fact it fits decently is a great victory. Now on to the second.
Yep, I was in it. Don't make me pull out my DD214. I did a bunch of cool things in the military. The two coolest were, first, Jump out of perfectly good airplanes, and second, war game against different militaries of the world.
The jumping was easy, scary, but still very easy. I went through three weeks of intensive training to qualify for jumping out of airplanes, only to realize one can be brain dead and still do it. I've jumped out of most of the jumpable vehicles. C-130, C-141, C-5, UH-60, UH-1, UH-47, and a Russian biplane.
My wargaming was done through JRTC (Joint Readiness Training Center). I was the "enemy" in a big outdoor laser tag game. We ruled the //box//, as we call it. We were a battalion up against regiments and larger. It was hard, fun, exciting, boring, and every other emotion. Life in the //box// was month long and a reflection on life in general.
Well I did bite too much. PRAXIS has kicked my butt. A few of my classes are questionable as far as grades goes. The teachers are great, and I am smart enough. I just took too many classes and had too much to think about. I comparing it to keeping a child dry in the rain by using my hands to catch the drops. It was too much to juggle.
Next semester I will be in the traditional program. That is regular classes at the college, but I get to choose the pace. That pace will not be 19 credit hours with about 10 hours of practicum a week on top. I will still have practicum time just not so much and without the mandatory high load. I will be glad to take some of my classes over again. they raced by and I feel as if I didn't retain enough.
Of all the things this has taught me is to start being kinder to myself. I was really hard on me. However, if I am to be kind to my students, then this should apply to me as well. Bad grades are not going to kill me. The main point is to not give up.

For those that don't know. I'm not yet a teacher but I will soon be one. Soon, being about two or three years. Lately I've been volunteering as and aide at Sechrist Elementary here in Flagstaff. The kids are awesome and I love to watch them absorb the education.
More than that, I like to watch them interact. I teach 2nd grade, so inhibitions and learned social norms are not quite there. It is a joy to see them support each other and comfort each other. Today we said goodbye to one of the students. Boys as well as girls hugged him and showed emotion it communicating their feeling of loss. As adults you'd rarely see two men hug or stroke another's arm in comfort unless they were really close. It gives one hope for the future where our citizens are compassionate. They can also be a pain. But even in that annoyance, I see the future adults they may be. It's not bad, because everyone has their own quirk.
In volunteering I have gained a healthy respect for what teachers are. I already respected them as educators of our future. They have so much power over the future. Teachers are amazing people in that they not only teach your children what is in the curriculum but also to be citizens in a world that cares less and less about citizenry. My hats off to all the teachers.
I'm sure my words will not reach those that don't care, but if for some reason you, reading this right now, are one of those that think teachers are overpaid and underworked, I challenge you to volunteer at a school for a few days. Work with a teacher for a few hours, twice a week for a couple weeks. You will see why Teachers in this country need more reverence than they currently get.

I just got back from Phoenix. Jess and I attended a party on Halloween night, which was really cool. Jess had a great time that night. I was just plain tired. I am glad I went. It was my duty to go and be with my girl. I kinda wish I hadn't. I could not get any work done this weekend. Blegh! So I had fun at the cost of a little guilt. Well, here is to fun. Many already know this, but they do not understand or fully comprehend my geekiness. Yes I have a comic collection. Yes I play video games. Heck I have many old consoles. I have an Atari 2600, Atari 7800, Sega Master system, Sega Genesis, Nitendo, SuperNintendo, Game Cube, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS and a Playstation2. I love Games. I love RPGs (Role Playing Games). I have always loved RPGs. I think this all started in high school. I wanted to play Dungeons and Dragons with my friends but was never invited to play, even when I expressed interest.
so I took up the next best thing, video game RPGs. Thank you Final Fantasy. I even got into the MMORPGs (Massively Multi-player Online Role Playing Games).
Twenty years after expressing interest I have found a group to play with. (I actually started like two years ago, but was in the closet about it. Thanks go to Frank and the Cardian Crew.)
Well now I like doing this PnP (Pen and Paper) RPG so much I have invested in books and dice. Ultimately, those are all you need to play. (Really, all you need is imagination.) But now I am sinking lower into my geekdom. I have now invested in miniatures and those things with which to paint them.

Why do I knit? I started knitting about four years ago. I wish I could say I cast on my first few stitches and haven't stopped since. There was about a good year break in there. I started back strong once I was newly single, thank you divorce. Thankfully I have a great woman in my life that does appreciate my knitting.
Ok! Why do I knit?
I am great with my hands.
I have always been very good with my hands. As a young man, I worked as a cement finisher. In the military, I was able to disassemble and reassemble my weapons blindfolded. I got into the coffee business and could work an espresso machine like you wouldn't believe. As much as I hated it at the time, many of my Barista antics were compared to the movie Cocktail. I picked up yoyoing again. I dropped it as a kid. The new yoyos are awesome. Like I said, I'm great with my hands.
Oh yeah, I failed to mention, I love wool socks. Blame that on the military. I think my generation were the last to get issued wool socks. After shopping and looking at wool sock prices I thought, "Well I bet knitting my own socks is cheaper." I bought a few books, surfed the web and taught myself how to knit. (Thank you Knittinghelp.com and Menwhoknit.com.)
Turns out knitting just about anything is more expensive. I may not have learned to knit had I known that, so I'm glad I was ignorant of that fact.
Lately I've been so busy with school that knitting has taken a backseat. I hate this. I want to knit more. I will as soon as I can.

I missed having a cat, so I got two. I walked into Petsmart to get fish stuffs and there were two kittens in the window. The little turds had the gall to ignore me. Thus, I had to take them home. I really only wanted one but then quickly realized it would be a psycho cat with no friends. these two were from the same litter so I felt bad breaking up the family. Here they are. They are a handful already. They are the cutest most horrible, angelic demons that have ever cuddled and bit me at the same time.

Oh Snap!! Flagstaff is finally getting a new yarn store. I have been trying to shop at Michael's and JoAnn's for yarn, but man their selection sucks ass. No really. Mostly acrylic, limited wool, no sock yarn. WTF! Don't even get me started on Walmart, They suck. I will only shop there in an emergency situation.
So anyway. I will have access to decent yarn now. Plus sock yarn, Oh god I need sock yarn. I want socks!

I love coffee, thus the nine bar part. Espresso is extracted at nine bars of pressure, though I haven't had a good cup of espresso or coffee in a very long time. I leave that rant for another post. I've been doing it for about two or three years now and not consistently. However, when I do do it, I love it.

Well, I recently got to meet Jim Manley recently. Ms. Loreck, My EDF200 teacher introduced us. Prior I met Jamie Whelan. After this introduction to Jim, both jim and Jamie met and spoke about me. The outcome is, Jim has said he will make my being in the Praxis program a reality. Woo Hoo! I have been so worried about my chances of getting in. I have so wanted to do it that I feel the other programs in the COE look inferior. Not that they are.
My Pop. Born September 19th, 1948 to Richard and Elena Treviño. The first of three children. The others are Anna and Sonja. Richard was very popular in school, from what I hear. He got decent marks too. [>img[Pop and Mom|http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2378/2461902942_db43a8b7c2_m.jpg]]
After a year or so in college my father enlisted in the Army. During the Vietnam war he knew it was a matter of time before he was drafted, so Richard joined under his own terms. This paid off. Special Forces picked him and kept him under wraps with his //Special// Special Forces team. They did some crazy stuff. My Pop told me some of that stuff When I had my Secret clearance in the military and the Statute of Limitations was probably up. However, I ain't heard no historians speak of this stuff so I'll just keep it under my hat (I don't want to see G-men at my front door). Let's say, my pop is a badass among badasses.
After [[Richie]] was born, dad left the army and became a cement finisher. In this he was again, best of the best. He raised a family doing this and for this I thank him.

Born on February 23rd, 1949 (correct me if I'm wrong mom).She was born to Alexander and Shirley Barsh in Los Angeles, CA. (Barsh is short for Barshevski, which was shortened when my ancestors came to the US by immigration. My grandmother's maiden name was Glass. The original spelling, I believe, is Glaz, which isn't hard to say but was also Americanized into Glass.)
She is the first child of two born to Al and Shirley. Smart, man was she smart. This information is all hearsay, but from what I have seen of her as my mom and an adult, I think it's true. Her father was a teacher. She grew up with many trials thrown at her, but she has survived them all. Sheila met my father in high-school, where they dated for a little bit.
It wasn't until my father was in the military that they tied the knot. Which wasn't as joyous as it could have been. Her parents, mostly Shirley, didn't approve of her marriage. Thankfully they did it anyways.
We'll skip over the Seventies, where her two bratty children were born. In the Eighties she was doing good. As an artist she got gigs making mannequin prototypes. She made decent money. Finally she went freelance and really made a name for herself in L.A. Eventually, opened a larger business that focused on visual merchandising. It was big, but a recession hit and it went under.

The [[Army]] has a way of changing people and I was no different, but I was not fundamentally changed. I was/am still very liberal in beliefs. Hell, I would hazard a guess that I'm more of a Democratic Socialist than a Democrat. I digress.
I grew up [[biking]] on the suburb streets and bike paths of LA. Do not let that lull you into a false sense of security, these are still city streets and traffic moves fast.
I wasn't much of a sporting kid. Little league was as organized as I got. I was on [[La Habra High School]]'s water polo team for about a week. I stuck to biking. It was something I could do alone though I may be in a group. My [[father]] got the family into biking.
we would take Saturday morning trips to all over Los Angeles and Riverside. The destination was always some restaurant.
My [[father]],[[Richard Albert Treviño]], is a [[cement finisher]]. Prior to this he was in the [[Army]].
My [[mother]], [[Sheila Ann Barsh Treviño]], is a sculptor and has currently branched into voice over work.
